Domaine Les Malandes

Chablis, France The Domaine des Malandes is based in Chablis and has belonged since 1972 to the Marchive family, which owns vineyards in the best "première cru" and "grand cru" positions and produces elegant, long-lived wines, the highest expression of the terroir. There are 29 hectares under vine, divided as follows: 3.85Ha de Petit Chablis - 15.96Ha de Chablis - 7.70Ha de Chablis 1er cru - 1.30Ha de Chablis Grand Cru, Winemaker Guènolè Breteaudeau has been in charge of vinification since 2006. The main objective of the Domaine des Malandes in producing its wines is to enhance the great peculiarities of a unique 'Terroir'. Only organic fertilisers are used in the vineyard and there is a special care for the prevention of diseases. Some plots are worked with a horse, which allows a great aeration of the soil. Curetage' is done in the vineyard to prolong the life of the vines that are sometimes affected by esca. During vinification, the aim is to let each terroir express its personality. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in 228-litre wooden barrels ranging from first to seventh passage and/or 500 l wooden barrels depending on the parcel of origin and the vintage.
