Johanniter

The history of the Joannite grape, or Johanniter, is rooted in innovation and sustainability. It was created in Germany in 1968 by Professor Johannes Zimmerman, after whom it is named. The Johanniter grape is the result of a unique hybridisation process involving the crossing of three different varieties: Riesling, Pinot Grigio and Seyve-Villard. What makes this grape variety so special is its high resistance to disease and the cold temperatures of the Alps. It is therefore a grape that fits in well with the natural production philosophy, requiring no special treatment in the vineyard. Johanniter is usually cultivated in the cooler regions of Europe, including Germany and Austria, and its popularity is beginning to spread, especially among natural and biodynamic wine producers around the world. Johanniter wines are known for their aromatic and fruity profile, often presenting notes of green apple, citrus and stone fruit. Excellent also in a sparkling version, like the one produced by our Matteo Furlani
