Within the Langedoc-Roussillon region we find Banyuls, where the vineyards have more than two thousand years of history and were planted by the Greeks and Romans.

Around the middle of the 18th century the territory of Banyuls and Colliure had around 700 hectares of vineyards which rapidly grew to 2500 hectares at the end of the 19th century.

The area follows the same trajectory as the entire region over the decades; it grows in hectares of vineyards, enters into crisis due to Phylloxera, then literally “explodes” in the following centuries until it reaches today’s production dimensions.

In 1909 Banyuls became the first denomination of mythical sweet wines and obtained certification in 1936.

Since 1971, the Collioure denomination has been modified in order to allow the production of the red and rosé typologies and, since 2003, of the white typology.
