The Brunello di Montalcino by Casanova di Neri is an iconic red wine produced in Montalcino, Tuscany.
Since 1978, Casanova di Neri has been producing Brunello Etichetta Bianca with a distinctive style. This wine stands out for its finesse and elegance, thanks to the combination of the typicality of Sangiovese and the unique characteristics of the vineyards in which it is grown. It is a wine with great aging potential, with constant qualities over time. The winter was mild and with average rainfall. March and April were stable and sunny, but May had very low temperatures and heavy rainfall, delaying flowering and fruit set. June and July were hot and dry, catching up with the vegetative growth. July and August had abundant water reserves and stable conditions, allowing for regular ripening of the grapes. The winemaking process includes manual selection of bunches and berries, spontaneous fermentation in conical steel vats with maceration and frequent punching down, all at a controlled temperature for 24 days. This is followed by aging for 30 months in oak barrels and 18 months in the bottle. Casanova di Neri’s Brunello di MontalcinoOn the nose it is intriguing and generous, with notes of bergamot and wild violet, cherry and morello cherry. On the palate it is relaxed and harmonious, intense and succulent. The finish is of great balance, clear, savory and pressing. It presents a great drink but will be best enjoyed in a few years. Montalcino (Siena)
Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, a 48-year-old grain merchant, who decided to leave Montevarchi to devote himself to wine production. Although the lands of Chianti Classico were nearby, Giovanni Neri was attracted by the quality of Sangiovese di Montalcino and its unpredictability.
In 1971, he purchased Podere Casanova, a property of around 200 hectares east of Montalcino, convinced of its potential to produce a great Brunello. The company, renamed Casanova di Neri, immediately began to improve the existing Sangiovese vineyards and plant new ones, thus starting its business.
In 1977, the company bottled its first wine, a Rosso di Montalcino, initially labeled “Red wine from the Brunello vineyards”. The following year, the first Brunello di Montalcino was produced, obtained from the best grapes from the vineyards north-east of Montalcino, giving life to the Etichetta Bianca, which became a symbol of the company.
