Aloxe Corton, Burgundy

The Domaine Maurice Chapuis is first and foremost a 'family Domaine', as the owners like to call themselves. It is located in the village of Aloxe Corton, where the historic 'Charlemagne' vineyard that belonged to Charlemagne is situated.
The winery began back in 1850 when a small worker 'Vigneron' Pierre Pavelot bought about 1 hectare of vines in Aloxe Corton. A few years later, he and his brother bought about half a hectare of vines in the Grand Cru of Charlemagne. Pierre's only daughter, Marie, married a Chapuis; since then, Eugène, Maurice and Louis have handed down the management of the estate, which his grandson Maurice still runs today with his talented and enterprising wife Anne-Marie.

The Domaine has a vineyard area of 12 hectares, almost all in the commune of Aloxe Corton but also in Savigny Les Beaune and Chorey Les Beaune. The hill of Aloxe Corton is unique in Burgundy, both because it is detached from the main ridge of the hills and because it has very mineral soils, steep slopes, a full southern exposure and a very special microclimate. All this gives the wines a very important aromatic bouquet and a very full-bodied taste with fat, mineral and very long-lived wines.

Aloxe Corton is best known in the world for its 'Charlemagne' (Chardonnay), but it must be said that the red wines also express themselves at the highest level in Burgundy. The company is
conducted under a system of reasoned agriculture.
