Marcillac, Aveyron, France

When Dominique (great-grandfather of Philippe, the current owner of the estate) bought the Domaine du Cros in 1882, it was the beginning of a beautiful love affair between a special terroir and a family of enthusiasts, the Teulier family (whose ancestors were already winegrowers in Aveyron).

It was not until 1964 that the first bottling took place, with Lo Sang del Pais becoming legendary throughout the Vallon de Marcillac.

Over the years, Domaine du Cros has continued to grow exponentially, and now has 34 hectares under vine, all in Fer Sevadou.

Since 2006, Julien, the fifth generation of winemakers at the Domaine, has been carrying on the family tradition with a clear focus on organic and natural methods.

Aveyron, a little-known area in the south-west of France, hides little gems like this Marcillac. Continental climate, terraces and iron-rich red limestone soil characterise an isolated and sparsely populated area at the foot of the Massif Central, between mountains and high hills, which lives mainly on agriculture. Domaine du Cros only produces Marcillac and the grape variety used is Fer Servadou, a relative of Carménère, also called Mansois.
