Georgia is by far one of the oldest wine regions in the world, with the earliest cultivation estimated to date back to the Neolithic period, some 8000 years ago.
At the time, the peoples of the South Caucasus discovered that the juice of wild grapes, if buried and left to rest inside the clay pots we know today as Qvevri (or Amphorae), could become a convivial and good drink.
The rest is history, they are the undisputed home of Orange wine.
