Matassa El Carner Rouge 2022

El Carner Rouge is an orange wine produced by Matassa di Tom Lubbe in Calce, in Languedoc Roussillon, and obtained from Grenache Gris and Macabeu grapes, coming from vineyards located on soil rich in clay and slate. Manual harvest and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and maceration for a month in 1000 liter Italian amphorae. It then ages in the same amphorae for 8 months before bottling, without filtration or clarification or addition of sulfur dioxide. El Carner Rouge is an agile and persistent wine, elegant and with a slightly oxidative style, the nose is strongly floral with notes of exotic fruit and aromatic herbs.

  Blend of Grenache Gris and Macabeu from a half-hectare plot planted on lime, clay and slate soil, surrounded by garrigue. Maceration and fermentation for a month in 1,000 liter Italian amphorae, indigenous yeasts, then maturation for 8 months in the same amphorae.

White and yellow flowers, exotic fruit, Mediterranean scrub, aromatic herbs and intense minerality

Agile and concrete sip, full, with slightly oxidative hints, crazy elegance and long finish

Tom Lubbe, from South Africa to a small village of 300 people in Roussillon, without return.

It was 2002 and in a short time Tom became a cult producer not only for the wonderful terroir of Calce.

His wines are tense, nervous and mineral like the granite on which the old sapling vines are planted, at the same time graceful and ethereal, like the wind that unfailingly combs those wild hills.
