Matassa Rouge 2022

Cotes Catalanes Rouge is a red wine produced by Matassa a Calce, in Languedoc Roussillon, and obtained from Carignan grapes coming from granite soil and pressed with the feet in a small vat. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and two-week maceration, then aging for 20 months in wood. Bottled without additions, clarifications or filtrations. Cotes Catalanes Rouge on the nose recalls hints of tar and leather, spices and black fruits; in the mouth it is fresh and salty, with soft tannins and a long and elegant finish. Try it with lamb with grilled fingers

Dark petaled flowers, black fruits, then spicy, tarry and leathery notes, very mineral

Salty, fresh and graceful, the tannin is soft, the sip is elegant and the finish is long

Tom Lubbe, from South Africa to a small village of 300 people in Roussillon, without return.

It was 2002 and in a short time Tom became a cult producer not only for the wonderful terroir of Calce.

His wines are tense, nervous and mineral like the granite on which the old sapling vines are planted, at the same time graceful and ethereal, like the wind that unfailingly combs those wild hills.
