The history of wine in today's Czech Republic, specifically in Moravia, has very ancient origins, dating back to Roman times; wine in this region is tradition and culture, and has a strong impact on the local economy.
About 90% of the country's wine is produced in Moravia, thanks to a precious soil and a continental climate that allows the wines to develop great acidity; this terroir enhances the aromaticity of indigenous varieties and the refinement of the many international varieties used in the area.
Production is very limited and destined mainly for local consumption, the hectares planted with vines are less than 20,000, and there are about 900 producers.
