Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classé is a legendary red wine produced by Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Pauillac, in the heart of the Medoc region, north of Bordeaux, and made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested manually when fully ripe, maceration is very long and the wine is aged in barriques. Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classè displays on the nose unmistakable notes of ripe cherry and candied quince, with hints of liquorice and dark spices, smoky and toasted puffs; on the palate it is rich and elegant, sublime on the long finish. The 2004 vintage is one of the best of the last 50 years in the Medoc, warm and sunny, to be tried with spiced Persian-style lamb

🛁 2004 is remembered as one of the driest years in 50 years, warm and sunny. The grapes are harvested when fully ripe and come from soil rich in gravel and clay. Long maceration and ageing in new oak barrels.

👃🏻 Dried red flowers and many fruity notes among which ripe cherry and candied quince are unmistakable, then liquorice and mineral returns, finally dark spicy, toasted and smoky hints that reveal a fine integration of the wine with the wood

👅 The sip is rich and full with elegant and precise tannins, denoting an excellent freshness that is sublimated in the long finish

Pauillac, Bordeaux

Chateau Mouton Rothschild is an absolute world icon, extending over 90 hectares north-west of Bordeaux on the Medoc peninsula.

It is located in what is considered the best terroir in the world, climatically the area benefits from oceanic influences but is also protected by the presence of the Landes forest.

The soil is well drained and pebbly, composed of gravel and clay.

A poor soil for any crop except vines, for which it is perfect.

It is here in Pauillac that we can find three of the five Premier Grand Crus Classès of Medoc and Graves, according to the 1855 classification: Lafite, Latour and Mouton.

The history of the Chateau is ancient, some 180 years, and full of events. In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild was so eager to have the opportunity to produce his own wine that he bought the estate and named it after himself.

In 1922, Nathaniel's great-grandson, Baron Philippe, took the saddle. In 1924, he decided to bottle all the wine that was previously sold by the barrels in the Chateau.

In 1926, the winery was enriched with a barrel cellar over 100 metres long named Grand Chai and designed by architect Charles Siclis. In 1945 the turning point that would make Mouton Rothschild the collector's wine par excellence, the vintage label.

Unique and signed by the greatest contemporary artists, different every year. The 1945 one with its iconic V is dedicated to the victory of the Allies and a work by Philippe Jullian. In 2006 it sold at auction for $320,000.

1962 also saw the arrival of the Museum of the Art of Wine, located adjacent to the Grand Chai. In 1973, Chateau Mouton Rothschild reached Olympus with its promotion to Premier Grand Cru Classé according to the 1855 classification.

In 1988 Baron Philippe died and was succeeded by his daughter Philippine, a famous actress who decided to put her career aside to become the lady of the Chateau.

1991 records the first vintage of the house white (eheh allow us the understatement), L'Aile d'Argent, made from Semillon, Sauvignon, blanc and gris, and Muscadelle.

In 1993 came the little brother of Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classé, namely Le Petit Mouton, more affordable but no less coveted. In 2003, a special label dedicated to Baron Nathaniel and the 150th anniversary of the winery was released.

The current owners of the Chateau are Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, the 3 sons of Philippine.
