Madlieri Rkatsiteli Mtsvane 2020, Rkatisteli 60%, Mtsvane 40%

Madlieri is a Georgian expression to give thanks to nature and to celebrate the friendship between John Wurdeman of Pheasant's Tears and (our friends at) Les Caves UK which is the basis of this shared project to produce great Georgian wines at an affordable price. It's a blend of Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane fermented traditionally in clay qvevri buried underground. Grapes macerate 7 days, ripen in qvevri until May, then bottle without filtration and with minimal addition of sulphites only at bottling. Floral with fruity notes of Pear, Apple and Lemon, mineral and herbaceous. Fresh and full-bodied, elegant and intriguing, persistent.

Madlieri Saperavi Mtsvane 2020, Saperavi 80%, Mtsvane 20%

Madlieri is a Georgian expression to give thanks to nature and celebrates the friendship between John Wurdeman of Pheasant's Tears and (our friends at) Les Caves UK which is the basis of this shared project to produce great Georgian wines at an affordable price. Harvested by hand, the grapes are fermented in terracotta amphorae lined with beeswax. Maceration lasts 10 days, malolactic fermentation is carried out in Qvevri and the wine is aged until May. Very little sulphur dioxide is added at bottling. Violet and dark berries, blueberries and dark currants, mineral and aromatic with hints of chocolate. Lively and agile but soft and with tannins in full view, great persistence and flavour.

Madlieri Vardisperi Rkatsiteli Kisi 2020, Vardisperi Rkatsiteli 60%, Kisi 40%

Madlieri is a Georgian expression intended to give thanks to nature and to celebrate the friendship between John Wurdeman of Pheasant's Tears and (our friends at) Les Caves UK that underlies this shared project to produce great Georgian wines at an affordable price. Interestingly, Vardisperi is a pink-skinned mutation of Rkatsiteli with gentler tannins and generally softer characteristics. The grapes are fermented at room temperature in terracotta Qvevri lined with beeswax and macerated on the skins for 30 days. Production involves racking into another Qvevri, where malolactic fermentation takes place and the wine rests until May, and finally blending and bottling with very little sulphur added. Slight floral tones then especially Peach and Pink Grapefruit, herbaceous and mineral notes. Fresh and tannic, ultra-drinkable, delicate and persistent.
