Pierre Gelin Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2014

The Domaine Pierre Gelin is a family property of 13 ha divided between the communes of Fixin and Gevrey Chambertin. In 1925 it was Pierre Gelin who started the business, which was later passed on to his son Stéphen and his wife, who ran it until a few years ago; now it is his son Pierre-Emmanuel, who runs the business with his mother. Pierre-Emmanuel pays particular attention to the method of cultivation and the fertilisers used, if any, are natural (manure from organic farming). The wines are aged in oak barrels, with a percentage of new barrels varying according to Crus and vintages, from 20 to 22 months. Pierre- Emmanuel concerned about respecting the environment, collects rainwater to wash the tractors and has installed the
'phytobac' for treating rinse water from sulphation equipment. Phytobac:
water purification system; contaminated water stored in a tank, conveyed from the pitch
wash, pass through a pump to tanks containing biomix, a natural substrate consisting of
farm soil and straw, in which the microorganisms for biodegradation are already present. The water
evaporates naturally through the action of the sun and wind, without releasing dirty water into the environment.
A control panel manages the correct humidity level of the biomix and adjusts the
scheduling of accurate daily irrigation cycles in order to enhance biodegradation and
disposal.
