Ciro Marina, Calabria
The Parilla family has been producing wine on the Ionian coast for four generations, and now Mariangela, Caterina and Giuseppe, who took over from their father Francesco, are in the saddle.
The estate covers 15 hectares of vineyards and two hectares of olive groves, and is to all intents and purposes a wine estate since 2004, organic since 2010.
At this time, it was Mariangela who dictated the company's guidelines, first deciding to focus solely on local grape varieties and later joining the Ciro Revolution, a local craft movement aimed at enhancing this magnificent land once known as Enotria.
In this area, everything is in fact perfect for the cultivation of vines: marine influences, arid soils, a fantastic climate, the presence of the Sila. Everything in the right place to produce sensational wines.
The vines are up to 60 years old in some cases, tended without the use of chemicals, and resting on clayey-calcareous soils. In the cellar, fermentation is spontaneous, using indigenous yeasts, and bottling is carried out without clarification or filtration, with small quantities of sulphur dioxide added. Refinement is always in steel.
The result is wines of great quality, as sunny and Mediterranean as the land from which they come, with an incredible value for money.
