Unofficial history tells us that Leif Eriksson's Vikings were the first to arrive in America and that they particularly liked Vinland, the Land of Vines, possibly located in Virginia.
The official story is that the first wine produced was of Albionic conception, in 1590, in North Carolina; it was obtained from a robust and climbing vine, Vitis Rotunbdifolia, and was called Scuppernong.
