Mamoiada, Sardinia
The VikeVike winery was born from the will and passion of Simone Sedilesu, a young oenologist born in
Mamoiada from a family that has been making wine for generations. Grew up among the rows together with his brothers and cousins,
working alongside his grandfather from an early age, he then learned the art of making wine from his father. A production philosophy
very precise and strongly identifying the territory: wine is made first of all in the vineyard, with great attention to
this; in the cellar it is only necessary to guide it and “not ruin it”. After graduating in oenology, Simone did
various experiences abroad, thus maturing the decision to create his own cellar: VikeVike… We are located at
center of Sardinia in the heart of Barbagia, high up in the hills, the vineyards are located at an average altitude of
736 m. above sea level. The Mamoiada area is highly suited to viticulture and has an ancient winemaking tradition:
the vineyards are at an average altitude of 736 m. above sea level (subject to strong temperature variations between day and night), i
Its soils are granitic in nature with a loose structure and slightly acidic. In the territory of Mamoiada there are
approximately 300 hectares of vineyards. The most cultivated grape variety is Cannonau (95%). Thanks to new systems, today, we are
also enhancing the Granazza, an indigenous white grape variety. All VikeVike wines are obtained thanks
to spontaneous fermentations of grape musts without any addition, just a small quantity of sulphites. The vineyards from
from which VIKEVIKE Cannonau derives are 15 years old and those of Granazza are over 60 years old with very low yields. After a careful selection of the grapes in the vineyard, the grapes are pressed and begin
immediately the fermentation which lasts about two weeks in small 1000 liter vats. Below the wine comes
it is aged in steel tanks and bottled in the first days of August following the
harvest. The Cannonau reserve ages in third passage oak barrels.
