The Wiese & Company Krohn was founded in 1865 by two Norwegians, Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn. In 1880 Theodor Wiese decided to sell his shares to his partner Dankert Krohn while remaining working in the company as export manager; his work in developing foreign markets and especially the Norwegian one was such that the company expanded considerably.

Dankert Krohn died in 1906 and after several changes of ownership, in 1921 it was purchased by Edmundo Falcao Carneiro, an export manager who had already worked in the company since 1910. Today the Carneiro family is in the third generation of running the winery. The company owns an important property called “Quinta do Retiro Novo” located in the Rio Torto valley, a noble area of ​​the Douro.

From this “Quinta” come the wines destined for Porto Vintage, Late Bottled Vintage and Colheita. La Wiese & Krohn owns approx
five million liters of wines stored to mature in six cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and the surrounding area.
