Civitella in Val di Chiana (Arezzo) In the green of the Val di Chiana, in an uncontaminated area far from any inhabited centre, rurality and sustainability have been the masters for decades. Here the production of wine and oil has centuries-old roots, and San Ferdinando, with 60 hectares, 9 of which are planted with vines, has been magnificently grafting itself into a "wild" ecosystem since the year 2000, making radical choices whose pivotal point is the enhancement of native varieties. Suffice it to say that there are less than 20 producers of Pugnitello, for example, in Tuscany alone. The Ciliegiolo is great, with its fresh style and vinified only in steel. The Sangiovese, produced only in the best vintages, and the Vermentino are also noteworthy, but the entire line combines very high quality with incredibly affordable prices.
