I'm invited for dinner. What wine shall I bring?

There is no harder thing than bringing wine to a friends dinner!

It sounds like nonsense but I assure you that, if before I gave it little importance, now it becomes really complicated. I don't know about you, but when I am faced with the choice of a bottle to take to dinner, it is always a delirium and the delirium increases (strange but true) as my knowledge of wine increases!

White or red wine? Bubbles or still? And then ... do I stay in Italy or go abroad? The possibilities multiply so much that it becomes difficult to choose! So calm and cold blooded! Let's see a little 'to help us make clarity through a series of points to come out a winner:

1) If we are on good terms with the person we are inviting, let's ask him what he is going to cook: this will make it easier for us to choose a possible pairing. Wouldn't it be nice to show up with an excellent bottle of Barolo 2003 and discover that our friend has planned a fish-based dinner?

2) If we are among "oenostripped" friends, where the wine will be the undisputed protagonist, we are allowed (perhaps obliged) to dare with a particular bottle: macerated whites, Orange wineo Pet Nat are always welcome.

3) If we are instead at a formal dinner maybe the best solution is to come with a meditation wine or bubbles: Banyuls or Champagne or an excellent Franciacorta.

4) Let's try to bring the bottle we offer with the correct serving temperature: in this way it will be ready to be opened But a fundamental thing not to lose sight of is the following: do not expect the bottle we bring to be necessarily opened!

How many times has it happened to me to invite friends to dinner and that they come with a bottle, maybe even an important one, making me understand warmly that they would have liked me to open it!

Out of kindness I have often given in to their solicitations, depriving them and me of that combination that I had studied with such devotion and offering my taste buds, and those of my friends, a shock that I could have avoided if only I had opened that bottle that I had chosen so carefully! I repeat, we do not pretend to open that bottle we offer! And if you really are curious to taste it, buy two bottles, so you can appreciate it in the comfort of your own home, without embarrassing the host.

And if you know each other so well and know that it is just impossible for you to resist the temptation to call for the opening of your gift, you just have to choose to offer flowers!

At this point you just have to browse through the various wineboxI am sure you will find the one that best meets your needs and if in doubt, as we have already shared, take two so you will be sure to taste the wine you have chosen.
