Black Level

The Ulivello Nero, also known as Olivella Nera, is an Italian red berry whose origins are uncertain and for which, moreover, there is an open debate about its obvious similarity to the Sciascinoso grape variety. However, this does not seem to result in kinship between the two grapes, despite the fact that they share the same territory, that between Campania and lower Lazio. The Ulivello Nero has been listed in the National Register of Vine Varieties under the name 'Olivella Nera' since 1971. Curiously, the Sciascinoso grape was registered the year before. The Ulivello Nero has a medium-small, perfectly round berry with a consistent skin and a red-black colour. Hence the name Olivella. It is a vine of medium vigour and early ripening. It normally produces reds with a vinous and fruity aroma, with notes of plum, cherry and blueberry. Great consistency and freshness on the palate, the tannin is dense but generally well integrated. Outside Italy, it can be found in Australia and California, two regions whose warm climate helps Ulivello adapt, taking it to really interesting levels of maturity
