Sierra de Gredos, Avila (Spain) We are in the pueblo of El Tiemblo, in the Sierra de Gredos region less than an hour west of Madrid, where the climate is continental and the terrain hilly with a distinctly sandy clay soil. Temperature excursions are powerful. This is the realm of Fabio Bartolomei, an iconic winemaker of Italian origin, born in Glasgow but Spanish by adoption. Fabio produces around 25,000 bottles obtained partly from his own hectares and partly from grapes contributed by surrounding winemakers with whom he has been collaborating for several years now. The common denominator is a healthy and natural viticulture, without the use of systemic chemicals, Fabio controls the production chain maniacally. His back labels are a manifesto of his idea of making wine, without the help of pesticides, chemical fertilisers or synthetic products, without clarification or filtering. Natural, evocative of the territory and with a lot of personality.
