Matthias’swinery is located in the northern part of the region,an area influenced by cold winds and equally cold nightstypical of the “Waldviertel” area. The territory of the region is veryvaried, ranging from clay to loess (sand) passing through different types ofprimary rock such as schist, gneiss and granite.
The main varieties areGruner Veltliner and Riesling. Matthias’s family has owned 20 hectares of land for several generations and originally it was a farm, as well as a vineyard, with animals, fruit and grain trees. Matthias’ father then specialized in viticulture and over time stopped raising animals. To date there are 13 hectaresunder vines and in the vineyard the Hagers have followed the principles of biodynamics since 2005
