Pierre Gelin, Burgundy

Domaine Pierre Gelin is a family property of 13 ha divided in the municipalities of Fixin and Gevrey Chambertin. In 1925 it was Pierre Gelin who started the business which subsequently passed to his son Stéphen and his wife who ran it until a few years ago; now it is her son Pierre-Emmanuel who runs the company with his mother. Pierre-Emmanuel pays particular attention to the cultivation method and the fertilizers used, if any, are natural (manure from organic farming). The wines are aged in oak barrels, with a percentage of new barrels that varies depending on the Crus and the vintages, from 20 to 22 months. Pierre-Emmanuel, concerned about respect for the environment, collects rainwater to wash the tractors and installed the
“phytobac” for the treatment of rinse water from sulfation equipment. Phytobac:
water purification system; The contaminated water stored in a tank, conveyed from the stand
washing, pass through a pump to the tanks containing the biomix, a natural substrate made up of
company soil and straw, in which the microorganisms for biodegradation are already present. The water
it evaporates naturally thanks to the action of the sun and wind, without releasing dirty water into the environment.
A control panel manages, in total autonomy, the correct humidity level of the biomix and regulates the
programming of accurate daily irrigation cycles, in order to enhance the biodegradation work and
disposal.
