Marcilly-le-Châtel, France

The Cave Verdier Logel estate covers some 18 hectares, most of which are planted with Gamay and fall within the Côtes du Forez appellation. This is characterised by a soil rich in granite and basalt on old volcanic mounds.

The remaining hectares are dedicated to various white grape varieties such as Pinot Gris and Viognier, covered by the PGI Vins de Pays d'Urfé, and other white grapes such as Riesling and Gewurztraminer, and red grapes such as Syrah and Malbec.

It is a family story that began when Odile and Jacky Logel decided to take over the family vineyards to develop the production of Côtes du Forez and vinify their grapes organically. This know-how was passed on to their grandson Maxime and daughter Julie.

The winery began its activity in 1992 with the installation of Jacky Logel who took over his father-in-law's estate, which initially had 8 hectares of vineyards in Gamay alone. The conversion to organic comes in 1997. This was an innovative approach at the time, and has enabled them to make a strong entry into a developing market with great potential.

In the same year, Odile decided to help her husband and the company took its present name, EARL CAVE VERDIER LOGEL.

The project to revitalise the Côtes du Forez vineyard involved raising the family's awareness of other local producers to raise the quality of their production; this led in 2000 to the creation of the appellation, allowing the area to be known throughout the world
