The Story of Harry Chenin Blanc is a white wine produced by Jurgen Gouws from Intellego in Swartland, a region in South Africa. It is made from Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay grapes. The grapes come from vines planted in 2002 on granite and schist soil. The 40% of the Chenin macerates one week on the skins, while the remaining 60% and all the Chardonnay are pressed directly. Assembled again before ageing, they spend 10 months in almost exhausted wooden barrels. The wine is bottled without filtration or clarification and with a homeopathic dose of sulphur dioxide added. The nose is dominated by citrus and exotic fruit notes, the palate is fresh and enveloping, streamlined and tasty. Try it with goat cheese crostini. It is dedicated to Harry, one of the locals who work the vineyard, because they are the beating heart of the winery

Intellego is the brainchild of Jurgen Gouws, and was founded in 2015. Jurgen is a young producer with a wealth of experience behind him, gained from working with big companies around the world.

We speak in particular of Terroir al Limit in the Priory and Matassa in the Languedoc (both featured on Apewineboxes) and further experiences between France, New Zealand and Russia.

From 2010 to 2014 he worked in Lammershoek, side by side with the most visionary producer in all of Swartland, that Craig Hawkins who obviously influenced his style.

Intellego's philosophy involves minimal intervention during the winemaking process.

The work in the vineyard could be described as intuitive viticulture, an evolution through experimentation on the small patches of land selected in the Swartland Appellation.

Jurgen's true passion is the work that takes place in the vineyard, practical, understanding seasonal influences and adapting based on constant observation of the terroir.

The great aim is to create optimal soil conditions through organic practices in which the vines will be cultivated for an indefinite period of time. Creating the conditions so that each block has its own individual character and grows in an environment beneficial to the plant and its roots.
