Chardonnay Les Suquets is a white wine pronducted by Edoardo and Claire of Les Terres Bariolees in Chalus, in the Auvergne region of central southern France. The Chardonnay grapes come from vines cultivated at 600 metres above sea level and with an eastern exposure. After rigorously manual harvesting, the must is pressed for a long time in barriques with subsequent oxidation, maturation for 8 months and final racking in steel for a month before bottling without filtration or clarification. Slightly oxidative style, fresh and savoury in the mouth, floral and fruity on the nose, to be tried with the incredible local cheeses: Cantal, Bleu d'Auvergne, Fourme d'Ambert, Saint-Nectaire and Salers

Chalus, Auvergne

Les Terres Bariolees celebrates the start of an independent project for a pair of French-Italian winegrowers. This is the case of Edoardo Veltroni and Claire Freist, the former a graduate oenologist from Pisa, the latter from the famous oenological University of Beaune. They met in Burgundy and have worked together in some of France's most famous wine regions: Chassagne-Montrachet, Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Before giving life to this project, the two searched for a suitable context for two years, until they arrived at these 5 hectares in Chalus, at an altitude of 600 metres and all around the winery. An altitude terroir with a splendid eastern exposure and very well suited to Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

There is little rain in this part of France, which allows the couple to intervene minimally and by means of biodynamic preparations, decoctions and fermented extracts. In addition, work in the vineyard involves green manure, incorporation of compost and periodic mowing.

Edward and Claire have big plans, so in 2023 a further hectare of Syrah is planted and in 2024 two more will be planted with Aligotè and Muscat.

Vinification is characterised by long maceration on the skins for the whites, and cold maceration with whole bunches for the reds, then wood and amphora between 8 and 16 months.

The wines are simply spectacular and lovingly tell the story of the land they come from
